Denver Crush Walls 2020 Mural with Adam Vicarel

This year I had the opportunity to shoot my good friend and local artist Adam Viceral for Denver Crush Walls. Crush Walls is Denver’s largest art and mural event which takes place annually in Denver’s River North District Neighborhood . For the past 12 years RiNo has been the location for Crush Walls and has quickly grown to become Colorado’s largest urban art event. The event showcases local and international talent who are commissioned to create murals and installations spanning multiple city blocks where art sprawls into the streets and alleyways. The neighborhood really comes alive this time of year and it’s one of the many reminders why I love Denver so much. My fiance and I are lucky enough to live here in RiNo where so many creatives and local brands call home, including Steadbrook. So when I heard Adam was creating a piece titled Talk Denver To Me I knew I had to document him at work.

Adam Vicarel is is a multidisciplinary designer who focuses on creating work that fuses classic design principles with both digital and fine art techniques to create impactful designs for clients through lettering, photography and illustration. He’s worked with clients such as NBC, Coleman, New Belgium and So Delicious (get in my belly).

I’ve been lucky enough to become close friends with Adam since moving to Denver so it was naturally an exciting shoot to be able to be a part of. I chose to only shoot film for these photos moving back and forth between 120mm and 35mm. You can see more of my film and digital lifestyle work here.

Joining Adam for this project is Ashley Joon, an abstract floral painter and mural artist based in Denver. Both Ashley and Adam traditionally work with acrylic and latex but for this project they wanted to push themselves to try something new. They decided to combine spray paint and acrylic for their project located behind Denver’s Central Market and landed on the phrase “Talk Denver To Me”. Although this was an experimental process for the two artists and their first time working together they were delighted on how the project turned out. You can see more of their process here and if you’re interested in purchasing a print, head on over to this link.
